The Alfa Shock Absorber Assembly

We are proud to offer the Alfa Shock Absorber Assembly which includes the Chassis Supports, End Plates, Adjuster and End Mounts. We once again thank our friend "Wally" Van Orden for allowing us to cast his masters. Many of you have noticed them on the Alfa Chassis we have been building and posted under "What's New - Models". The End Mounts require modifications to the Pocher shock. Also, we include the extra shock arm required for the front shocks. We provide instructions with photos.

Cast Bronze and Chrome Plated Steering Wheel  

The breakthrough for the new chrome plated cast bronze Steering Wheel is in our sand blasting the rim so it can be painted! Just mask off the spokes and spray either black or white…the results are amazing.

The Alfa Steering and Front Brake Assembly

Everything in the above photo (except the Pocher back plate and tie rod) is made by MML.

Under development for almost a year, the Alfa Steering and Front Brake Assembly is clearly one of our most ambitious projects ever undertaken. Each part in this Assembly started as a hand built prototype created on our workbenches. They are cast in bronze and then undergo a final preparation which includes drilling, tapping and brazing together some sub-assemblies. The Steering Arms are a direct replacement for the Pocher stamped metal pieces and attach using the Pocher bolts. The Brake Arm is tapped and attaches with the 2 mm threaded rods. And, the Brake Levers utilize the tapped 0-80 hole in the MML Axle. The 1/16" brass rod (provided in the Kit) fits snuggly in the end of our Clevises (a dab of our Bondini glue is recommended).

The Kit includes the Steering Arms, Brake Arms, Brake Levers, Clevises, 00-90, 0-80, 2 mm Bolts and brass rod.

This Kit does require using the MML Axle (Part No.A002) …the spindles need to be shortened about 1/16" of an inch from the top and bottom, easily done with a file. And, the tie rod provided by Pocher also needs to be fitted. We will fit both at no charge if they are sent to us.

The Rolls-Royce Leaf Springs

A combination of stainless steel leaf springs and cast bronze clamps…that actually work! After the gratifying success of our Alfa Leaf Springs, it was obvious to make them for the Rolls. And, for those who have built a Rolls, you know how awful the Pocher one’s are! We have even used compression springs in the rear of our models to hold them up. Well, no more!

Once again, our thanks to Brian Yingling for his drawings that make the photo-etching possible. And, to the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club for providing copies of the original factory plans.

The Kit comes with the main leafs preformed at the ends and 00-90 nuts for the clamps. For those determined to achieve prototypical accuracy…we include shrink tubing which we discovered works wonderfully to replicate the gaiters.

Bugatti Bumper Brackets

A direct replacement for the Pocher plastic brackets. Easy to install with the 0-80 bolts provided. Cast in bronze and chrome plated. Notice the Bumper Ends, Running Lights, Head Lights, Radiator Grill, Vinyl Transfers...and, Elephant Radiator Cap! Beautiful model under construction by Frank Giordano.

MML’s Alfa Leaf Springs

 Update...Yes, size does matter! And, we came up a little short...the original 1mm bolts were 8mm long and really need to be 8.5mm. So, as long as we had them specially machined for us...we had them domed...just like the prototype. And, we had the 00-90's domed as well.

In our continuing quest to improve the quality of Pochers, Model Motorcars has developed a functional set of Alfa Leaf Springs! Direct replacement for the Pocher springs; requires no modifications. Photo-etched from stainless steel, with the ends preformed with loops (no soldering required), the clamp tubes precut, and all the 0-80, 00-90, 1mm nuts and bolts, and 2mm washers to complete the set. Plus, we include a 1mm wrench! Those 1mm nuts are almost impossible to use without one...

We believe everyone should see just some of the work Brian Yingling did to help make this wonderful addition to our parts catalog. We have been working for almost a year to develop them; many samples, false starts and unexpected problems...

	But...well worth the effort!

Our new Alfa Steering Arm is prototypically correct. However, it does require drilling and pinning to attach. Comes with instructions and a length of music wire.

Exciting New Mercedes Hood Grills

Yet another amazing photo-etched part! Again, thanks to the efforts of Brian Yingling…we offer replacements to the Pocher provided screening. These are chrome plated, doubled etched for realistic depth and fit exactly in the hoods.

Mercedes Steering Linkage

After many frustrating years of trying to get the Pocher steering linkage to work…we decided to make our own. And, as is often the case, the prototype showed the way.

As one can see from this drawing and photo, it was really quite simple! The main problem with the Pocher linkage, besides not looking anything like the prototype, is one of looseness. Ours fit tight and the wheels will really turn.

The set comes with 6 Connectors, a foot of brass rod, and 0-80 bolts and washers. We provide the 3/32” brass rod without cutting it so that the builder can fit each link to conform to the model. Simply apply superglue, epoxy or solder the rod into the hole in the end of the Connectors.

Our new metal overlay Grill easily fits over the existing plastic grill by bending the scored photo-etched tabs. The new Grill is double photo-etched to give it real depth and then nickel plated. Many thanks to our good friend Brian Yingling, who designed this wonderful addition.

We are trying to replace all the Pocher stamped metal pieces…these parts go a long way toward that goal! Almost a direct replacement…you will, however, give up working brakes (has anybody got them to work?) The trans kit includes everything needed for the modification, as shown in the photo.

Bugatti Hood Latches

These are without question our best Hood Latches. Jorge made the originals and they are a perfect match to the prototypes…and, they work! They are cast in bronze and chrome plated. The set comes with 1mm threaded rod to attach the top to the base and bezels for the hood.

In our continuing quest to replace all the Pocher provided chrome plated plastic parts…here are several new parts. First, the Tail Light Housings…prototypically shaped, hollow to provide space for bulbs, cast in bronze and chrome plated. The red lenses are not provided, but, are easy to make from Pocher red sprue. Next, shown are the Country Code and License Plates. Again, cast in bronze and chrome plated (lettering not included) .

ELEPHANTS! ELEPHANTS! ELEPHANTS!

 

We have commissioned a replica of the famous Bugatti Elephant mascot. This wonderfully whimsical pachyderm was Ettore Bugatti's response to the failure of his huge Type 41 Royales to attract customers. His famous sculptor brother, Rembrandt Bugatti, provided him with the design, and Ettore had it cast in sterling silver—a white elephant. Copies of this famous mascot have found their way onto bookshelves and desktops the world over.

The MMLtd 1:8 scale Prancing Elephant Mascot was sculpted by Jill A. Kenike, a former designer for Tiffany and Co. Because our Prancing Elephant Mascot is intended to adorn the radiator of Pocher Bugattis, we asked Ms. Kenike to trim the pachyderm down a bit to match the svelt lines of the zoomy Profileé and Surprofilé Bugattis. Our Prancing Elephant Mascot is balancing on top of our new Bugatti Radiator Cap which features the correct profile and simulated quick-release latch of the prototype. Now the Pocher Bugatti can have both a correct radiator cap and a link with the artistic legend that is Bugatti.

New and Improved Alfa Axle

After ten years, we have decided to up-grade our famous Alfa bronze axle. Same great fix for the crazy camber angles of the plastic kit axle, but now with finer detailing and smaller, more accurate profile. To celebrate the re-birth of our axle, we are including a pair of our new Bronze Bell-Cranks and a pair of our new Bronze Clevises. Our new Alfa Axle is a knock-out improvement for any Pocher Alfa model. Drilled and tapped for 2 mm hardware; clevises work with the stock 2 mm brake rods supplied in the kit.

Bronze Clevises

Available in pairs, these clevises are designed to work with the stock 2 mm brake rods in Pocher Alfa and RR kits. Great improvement for the highly visible Alfa and RR front axles; makes a nice addition to Bugatti shift linkage and the Mercedes hand brake linkage. Finally, no more struggling with over-size and awkward-to-use 2 mm slotted screws and the sheet-metal kit-supplied clevises which rarely line up right the first time. Our Bronze Clevises use either 2 mm screws (Pocher) or 00-90 hex-head bolts which are included, and which are much easier to use.
